Overpressure Sintering Furnace

Overpressure Sintering Furnace

This furnace, installed at the Institute of Materials Processing, was manufactured by Ionex, Inc. in 1991. This furnace was designed for ceramic, intermetallic and metallic vacuum/HIPing, vacuum sintering, and reduction sintering. This furnace is installed with a condenser in its exhaust system to trap organic or inorganic vapors during heating. It is the ideal type of equipment to perform debinding and sintering in one run for ceramic and metal injection molded parts. The major features of the furnace are listed below:
  • Temperature up to 2000oC
  • Inert gas pressure up to 1500 psi
  • Mechanical vacuum pump
  • 2 psi hydrogen continuous flow with an off-gas burner
  • 5 inch diameter by 5 inch deep sample holder
  • Graphite heating elements, holder, and insulation
  • Automatic temperature control system
