Graduate Research Opportunity in Mechanical Alloying

  • The Particulate and Composite Materials research group of the Institute of Materials Processing at Michigan Technological University assists government and industrial personnel in assessing, developing and implementing new powder-based processes for commercial markets. Areas of special expertise include mechanical alloying, controlled-atmosphere processing of reactive materials, high pressure isostatic processing, and cryogenic mi lling.
  • Milling and mechanical alloying have been carried out on a wide range of materials, including nickel-, iron- and aluminum-base alloys, magnetic and electrical materials, intermetallics, alkaline earth alloys and polymers.
  • Staff members at the Institute are full-time, non-teaching research professionals, and can undertake proprietary programs as needed. Cooperative development programs with other organizations are also strongly encouraged.
  • The powder process development and characterization facilities at the Institute are available for use on both in-house development programs and for toll processing work.
  • For more information about the mechanical alloying technology activities at the Institute or to discuss potential cooperative development efforts, please contact:
